Existential doubt

Good morning Friends: I really need help in this:

Let's go straight to an example:
A player is in the last year of the contract to which I am paying 570 thousand + 200 thousand bonus
before the end of the contract I want to extend the same, but not renew if it is not for a bonus of at least 8 million

the issue is this, if I renew now I not only have to pay a lot the next few years (which I am willing to do) but it changes me remarkably the contract of the current year, I would be paying a madness for the current year by which I already have agreed the 570 thousand.

and the question goes,
Can I wait for the season to end and offer him that contract or when the season is over automatically he become a free agent and compete with others teams?

I appreciate the answer ..
Hug everyone

if you don't resign him before end of season sim you will lose him and have to bid on him in free agency with everyone else. If you have the the money in the current season to do the deal then who cares if it raises his current cap. Unless you are up against the cap then you would have to restructure others or cut someone. You could always wait til late in the season and resign him since your cap will be less important for the current year. If he's an important player find a way to keep him :)
