Rule question about kicks

When kicks after points are done SHORT to the side, is the kicking side players allowed to take the ball WITHOUT the opponent have touched it in between???
It seem this happened two times in end of this game https://mfn27.myfootballnow.com/watch/5887#1038585
Text say the kicking side recovered the ball BUT don't say anything at all about opponent team touching the ball.
This made the kicking side cought up TWO plays in very short time, equalized so it became overtime, which made the opponent team didn't winn the "safe lead" match...

IF it's legal for the kicking side to take the ball without the opponent tough the ball in between (and fumble) then I would want to make such short kicks WHOLE games... :)
(except when I'm in lead at points) as long as the opponent haven't good kick returners or catchers positioned there too.

i do think onside kicks are much too easy to get on mfn compared to real life

Ball must travel 10 yards on kickoffs and then it's fair game for either team.

On punts, yes, returning team much touch it first for the kicking team to take it away.

I see.
Thank you.

Then I would make short kick suprises SOME more often - but seldom enough to be suprises :) - earlier in games too, with players who are good at stripping the ball and recover free *****. And they are 9 against 6 there, which would add chance to succeed....
(But I'm known for making unexpected tactics IRL too :) in other sports mostly with success. For instance many years ago I "invented" an overtaking in sail races at LOWART side, which were counted as impossible before we did it :)

The opponent's players there aren't used to catch ***** anyway. And even if the suprise fails, it would be just 10 yards worse than it seem it's common to be counted as GOOD PUNTS just over the middle line! (which I disagree with :) finding that bad.)
