Yeah, I agree with that line of thinking as well. But is it better to tie yourself down for the remainder of your potential career for the minimum you can be paid than to not play at all? Maybe you'd do it for a single season, or maybe even two, but I don't think it makes sense to do it long term over 5 or 6 years.
Maybe he just wants to play regardless of how large his contract is? Better than not playing at all.
This is the basis of my logic, if a player is not being offered a big contract then there is obviously not demand for him. I do have on the list to change the evaluation formula so that the 2-year megadeal gets a bit more weight than the 6-year deal with the same total bonus.
