The Aging Process

Is it just me or do players fall off a cliff way too early? The dreaded 3-0 is a death sentence for a lot of positions in MFN. I feel like decline should be a little more gradual before ramping up, rather than a sudden 15-20 point drop as soon as they hit 30.

It's the speed drop that ruins most players. It's also one of the most obvious factors that Speed is the most important skill for any position even when it doesn't make any sense. Got a 100 everything kicker with <20 SP? Too bad, he sucks. Got a lousy kicker with 100 SP? Congrats, he's an 90% guy.

The only mitigation I've found is switching positions. Like taking a washed up elite RB (washed up because his speed is now 70) and making him a WR for 2-4 years. Same thing with DL, they can play 14-15 seasons because their position doesn't always require speed.

Your kicker in lg 1 automatic.

The decline in the NFL depends on positions. RBs are known to decline a significant amount when they turn 30. There are guys at other positions that still play at a high level between 30-35. I think your underrating speed for a football player. It’s critical.

I just went through a training camp and had a WR loss 27 points of speed at once! That's literally insane. I knew he'd age since we was in his 9th season and there is no variablilty to the aging point, but come on! It'd be really nice to smooth this out over time rather than just fall off a cliff.

Great thread

I think it would be kool to have injuries, position, player use and some randomness be factors in this.

Examples:
Position:
QB's and OL tend to last longer than RB's, WR's and DB's for the most part. With some freaks thrown in of course. Being under weight or over weight could also be factors as well.

Injuries:
How many and what kind during his career? Were there some major injuries in there or was he just nicked up a few times. Maybe have a major leg injury immediately affect a skilled position players speed and accel and some skills that make sense to the injury. Or a major arm injury or too many concussions to a QB kills his career. Maybe have some kinda of warning from the player that he is thinking about retiring early because of those types of injuries. On his card and in the "what he thinks of you" column.

Use:
How many carries has a RB had in his career. Maybe a RB that weighs 190lbs wears out faster than one that weighs 210lbs if they both had the same amount of injuries, carries and hits. Plus a lil randomness thrown in. How many times was a QB sacked in his career. etc...

Adding variables to the aging process would be really kool(if its not in there already). And if it's not a coding nightmare.

Not sure if this has been mentioned somewhere, but:

There should be some logic where a player can lose weight, gain speed, acceleration, etc. especially if re-assigned to a new position. Also increasing strength should be a possibility,

On the flip side there should be some logic that allows certain players to get fat, slow, weak etc. that is not age-related.
