I used to play GLB as well... hence the mention of cookie cutter building to match the meta. Too much control leads to a route 1 to success being employed widely.

While I like the idea of having greater agency over the playbook, what if, instead, each coach had plays associated with them? That way, instead of owners rigging their playbooks to take advantage of the current meta (cookie-cutter play comes from greater player agency, sad but true), they'd be tied to the coaches' abilities and preferences. Maybe owners could design 1 play per season as a "team signature" or something, to personalise their experience a little.

I like the comment you made about having one play per season, whether it be one play or more it would be available to create one or more only during a time period within the offseason.
The same way you can only sign coaches during a certain time segment, so that you would have to submit your play by a certain time before the start of the season, and once the season begins you cannot edit it or remove it, it just provides fair ground for your opponent to scout you out! As for coaches, I would like to see coordinators and positionals being influenced by their head coaches, in other words picking up on attributes for their ratings and keeping them on their profile ratings.
