Practice Squad

Like the NFL, we should be able to establish a practice squad of players that can get coached and improve. Then, when inevitable injuries happen, we could have competent replacements at the ready, instead of scouring the free-agent scrap-heap.

Thats what the 7 inactives are in a 53 man squad.

Possibly increase roster size to 49/50 or even 53 with squad max at 60.

I would like to be able to take more than 60 players to training camp (and have some control on what we are looking to train in each group)

tbh i use the inactive list as my secrect practice squad... i only activate them when i have an injured player to sit... my inactive group are usually project players i want to test at next camp but don't want to cut
we should be allowed to have a 63 man roster (53man + 10 practice squad) but only dress 46

Two problems with that:

1. Sometimes injuries eat up my inactive list. Then I'm stuck playing players I don't want to play. I want to let my projects get some experience instead of subjecting them to a trial by fire.

2. I have no way of knowing which players I'll need to replace. I can guess, sometimes well, but I can't completely know the future.

Maybe we could be like the NFL and list practice squad players as technically free agents, so that anyone can pick them up, as long as they get promoted to an active roster. That way, different people could be growing different players. Then the players could be gaining experience, instead to just sitting on the scrap heap. If we are going to be forced to deal with injuries, at least give us the tools to do so.

i agree but it's a big task to add to the next upgrade... i mean i don't think it's that easy to set it up

Maybe not for the next upgrade, but it won't be as hard as you might think. List them as free agents, only give them a chance to improve. Have them run each "scouted" play five times during the midweek spin, so they could get some development and some experience. There was a "scout team" back in the olden days. This would also give people incentive to use the "scouted" feature at sometime other than the last minute.

If you are referring to the real NFL, this is incorrect. Practice squad players do not count against a 53 man roster, which is why any team can sign them, so long as they put them on their 53 man roster after poaching.

The PS isnt meant to hold and replace a player for injury....its to give young guys them time to grow physically and mentally. Still why not use it for injuries, but in theory you cant put your injured starter there while he rests and pull a young guy up to get snaps in his place ...time and time again.... sending players back and forth with no penalties

A few rules would have to be in place to prevent a gaming of this squad, but i would love one.

1. Each NFL team can have up to 10 players on its practice squad.

2. Practice squad players are free to sign with other NFL teams, but they have to be signed to the 53-man active roster of the acquiring team.

3 .A practice squad player cannot be signed to another practice squad unless he is first released.

4. Also, a player must have a minimum of six games - on a practice squad in order for that season to count as one of the player's three permissible seasons of practice squad service

I would like the PS players to gain familiarity of your playbook, but at a reduced rate cause they really are not taking snaps there during practice.

But i would like them to gain some familiarity with the plays you scout of your opponent as they are core of the scout team..

One other thing is they could or should get injured at a higher rate than a FA....really there is no practice injuries here for anyone...i would like that part added at the same time as the practice squad
