OL Underperformance / Pass Game RNG

I've noticed that frequently 'Elite' o-lineman don't seem to produce on par with their level when it comes to the passing game. For instance, in a recent game my 90 rated RT gave up 4 sacks to a 60 rated DE with 25 pass rushing ability. On the other side, my 99 rated LT allowed 2 sacks to another mid-60s DE. This was on 28 drop-backs in a game I averaged 12+ YPC (which should be taking the edge out of the pass rush). Not to mention how many times they gave up pressure that same match, leading to absolutely atrocious QB play. Anecdotal evidence aside--and acknowledding that obviously no player(s) will always play perfect--but I've noticed in general that sacks seem to run a little high, and that may be one contributing factor.

It's worth noting that from my personal view, I do believe that elite linemen DO produce in the run game. In fact, this may just be symptomatic of a larger issue, wherein the running game is very predictable, but passing is almost a complete crapshoot. If you have great blockers and a great RB, you can expect to have a great running game. If you have great run defense, you can expect to (mostly) stop the run. Generally speaking, I think the run game works. Yet passing seems to always be erratic. Bad QBs throwing to bad WRs will tear apart a phenomenal defense while a great QB throwing to great WRs behind a great o-line will fall to pieces versus middling talent. Naturally there will always be an RNG element (any given Sunday!), but at times it seems frustratingly unpredictable from game to game, with big/broken plays frequently being the only real determinant factor, rather than stringing together steady methodical drives.

Anyone else have thoughts on this? Differing perspectives? Would welcome some dialogue to see where others land on this.

Well I mean your team sacked my QB NINE times in cust-10. Haven't watched the game yet but I'm pretty sure some sacks were on my elite tackles and guards.

And I have been noticing that elite O-lineman fall apart on certain games randomly

Are you sure it's not when the 2nd string OL is in the game when blown blocks happen.

I'm assume you know, that they will rotate after a couple of plays, when you have back-ups in the Depth Chart.

That's the only thing I can think of. Or they just get tired?

idk for sure. I've not noticed a problem, but then again, I don't have many "Elite" OL'men.

Sacks are 'attributed' so it's easy to see who gave up a sack on any given play, not to mention that OL should not be substituting out except in case of injury. In that particular game in question, half of the sacks occurred in the first quarter; and being tired goes both ways, regardless.

You said elite linemen, but failed to list their pass blocking skill.
Are they just overall elite, or are their pass blocking numbers high as well?

I know the testing in MFN was tweaked to improve the pass rushing and those changes have been made to the other leagues in the latest upgrades.

I have noticed this as well with O-Lineman, have had it happen to me a lot.

In watching multiple games across several leagues and with several different linemen of varying skills as well as different QB's the sacks seem very predictable. As I watch the plays develop I see that sometimes the linemen break down, even against weaker rushers. Sometimes the sacks seem related to QB vision or lack thereof...ie holding the ball too long. As well take into consideration WR/TE skillsets vs different CB's and Safety's skill sets. Perhaps coverage is causing some sacks as well? Overall I would say it's pretty well balanced out. No player regardless of his numeric rating will ever play every play perfectly. Also, formations and defensive schemes can play a factor.

Ares

What do you mean by this?

Are you suggesting that the OL doesn't substitute based on fatigue like the other non-QB positions?

Thanks

This is the case in the NFL. O-line never sub out except for injury.

Right, but that's not how it is in MFN. At least I don't think it is.

I would love for it to be.

We should be able to set playing time by position/position group.
